I started my career as a criminal defence and civil liberties lawyer ( what we now call human rights) for 7 years , undertaking work before the criminal courts and ECHR. I joined Clyde &Co as partner, where I helped establish its office in the UAE. After 27 years, I joined RPC to head up the Arbitration group. I have practiced both in England and Singapore. I represented the UK government's export credit agency, ECGD ( now UKEF) for 30 years. I was elected to CIArb's Board of Trustees, a position I held for 8 years and Chair of the Board for 5 years, until 31/12/2022 . I am delighted to have been elected President for 2024. I am a founding member and director of Legal UK , an initiative of the LCJ, whose aim is to promote English commercial law. I am Chair of London Chamber of Arbitration and Mediation (LCAM), the dispute resolution arm of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry, established in 1882; Chair of International Arbitration at RPC; former Chair of the IBA committee on International Sales and Related Financial Transactions.
